Enrollment Tips – New Transfer Students

 

Enrollment Tips


– These tips are for courses offered by the Media Studies program only. 
– We recommend enrolling in 13-14 units in your first semester.  This would typically consist of three 4-unit courses and a 1 or 2-unit course. The majority of Berkeley courses are 4 units.

If you are eligible to apply in fall 2020:

Phase 1  (July 14 – August 8) – You can enroll and waitlist in up to 17.5 units.     

  • Media Studies 111/Media Studies 112 – New transfer students are eligible to waitlist in MEDIAST 111 or MEDIAST 112.  Waitlisted seats will be allocated according to an online questionnaire that will be emailed to waitlisted students in early AugustPlease fill out the survey as soon as you receive it.  
  • Declared Media Studies majors have enrollment priority for all Media Studies courses (Media Studies 104D, 104E, 130, 170, 180, 190) 
  • If there are seats available in any Media Studies courses as the enrollment period progresses, we will send a bCourses announcement to let you know.

Adjustment Period  (August 17 – October 30) – You can enroll and waitlist in up to 20.5 units.

  • If you are on a waitlist, consider enrolling in an alternate course while you wait and then drop either the waitlisted or alternate course as needed.  

If you are eligible to apply in spring 2021: 

Phase 1  (July 14 – August 8) – You can enroll and waitlist in up to 17.5 units.     

  • Media Studies W10  – There are seats reserved for new transfer students. You should enroll immediately at your appointment time (check in Cal Central if you do not know your appointment time).  
  • Media Studies W10 waitlist – If you register late and enroll on the Media Studies 10 waitlist, an online survey will be sent to waitlisted students. Enrollment priority will be given to students who demonstrate they meet the minimum eligibility criteria to apply to the major with the completion of Media Studies 10. 
  • When enrolled in Media Studies W10, you may not enroll in upper-division courses offered by Media Studies during the same semester.
