UGIS Commencement Ceremony 2020 – Postponed Until Further Notice

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Spring 2020 UGIS Commencement has been canceled.

NOTE: We are currently considering alternative options for the UGIS commencement ceremony and we will update the UGIS major program websites and notify UGIS students via email once a decision has been made.

NOTE: The Cal Performances box office is working extra hard to make sure everyone gets their refunds. The tickets may take some time to get refunded but they will be on their way within the next few weeks.

Visit the UGIS Commencement website for more details and refund information.

Departmental commencement ceremonies are held in May. The Undergraduate and Interdisciplinary Studies (UGIS) Commencement includes students from Media Studies and other interdisciplinary majors in UGIS–American Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies (ISF) and Religious Studies.

Students who anticipate graduating at the end of fall 2019, spring 2020, summer 2020 and fall 2020 may participate in the May 2020 UGIS Commencement Ceremony. Media Studies majors interested in participating in this ceremony should watch for information about signing up to participate and additional instructions in the Media Studies program emails in the spring. If you are eligible to participate in the UGIS Commencement Ceremony and are no longer receiving emails from the program, contact the Media Studies Student Academic Advisor at least three months before the May ceremony if interested in participating in the ceremony.

The UC Berkeley Campuswide Commencement ceremony has been postponed. Read Chancellor Christ’s Letter to the Class of 2020 on Berkeley Commencement.

The University holds campus wide ceremonies in the fall and spring to celebrate graduating students. For dates and details regarding these two special events, visit

Students may participate in the UGIS Commencement Ceremony and a campuswide ceremony if they choose.
