Matthew Berry earned his Ph.D in History at UC Berkeley.  His dissertation, an intellectual biography focusing on the “grandfather“ of modern Vietnam, is titled Confucian Terrorism: Phan Bội Châu and the Imagining of Modern Vietnam. 

Research Interests: the shaping and use of history for political ends, extremist ideologies, nationalism, and modernization/globalization theory.
